Saturday Fun!

Yesterday was a beautiful day! It wasn't too hot OR humid. We began the day with a softball game. Emma-Rae played a WONDERFUL game & the Colts were victorious again. Now bear with me because I'm going to do a little bragging. At this age the girls all rotate positions. Emma-Rae hit well, when she was playing first she caught the ball and got someone out, when she was short-stop she assisted in two outs, when she was catching she got someone out at home. She was awesome yesterday and earned herself a batting helmet. :) Oh, the rest of the girls played a great game too- Audrey hit a grand slam!

After the ball game the kids and I went up to Jackson, TN to their Aunt Angie's house for an afternoon of swimming. We had a great time visiting with Aunt Angie, Randy, Aunt Stacy, & their cousins Jacob, Taryn, & Summer. The kids swam ALL day, which is normal behavior for my two little fishes, they swim everyday at MaMaw Janie's house.

Emma-Rae, Taryn, & Summer being "sweet."

And.... my darling, WILD child John-Robert being his version of "sweet." I think this will be good blackmail one day when he wants to impress his girlfriend, what do y'all think?

After the kids FINALLY got out of the pool Randy got a fire going & the k
ids made S'mores. John-Robert wasn't very interested in eating, he just liked to cook the marshmallows until they were mushy. I think he cooked about 15 of them until I took the bag inside & hid it.

John-Robert Turns 5!!!

We have been counting down the days to June 19th since Emma-Rae's birthday on the 1st... 5 more days, 2 more days, is it June 19th yet? What time are my guests coming over? Am I having a bowling birthday party? Those questions have been the main topic of conversation for weeks at our house.
We began the day with the Adams family traditional birthday breakfast- birthday cake! Yum!! Check out the video of Emma-Rae & I singing to the b-day boy.

I always take the day off on the kids' birthdays (thank you Doc!) so our next stop was the Memphis Zoo! Our first stop at the Zoo was Cat Country, John-Robert originally wanted to see the pumas but was side-tracked immediately by the lions. We hung out with the lions for a LONG time, I spent most of the time biting my tongue in half as John-Robert attempted to convince Emma-Rae and I how "nice" the lion was, he has "nice" lion eyes. On to the leopards- I had to convince BOTH of the kids that leopards are different than cheetahs- honestly, they didn't believe me one bit until we saw the cheetah. John-Robert said that cheetahs are much skinnier & taller than leopards.
We spent a good deal of time hanging with the tigers as well. John-Robert particularly likes the tigers because of Master Tigress. If you look closely you can see the tiger Mohan taking a nap in the background.
After visiting Cat Country & grabbing a bite to eat we headed over to the Northwest Passage area of the Zoo. We saw the Sea Lion show, did you know that an easy way to tell the difference between a seal & a sea lion is to check out their ears? Sea lions have ear "flaps" seals don't. After watching the polar bears swim the kids hopped into a canoe and learned about some of the traditional carvings on totem poles.

After grabbing a couple of those Hawaiian Shaved Ices- they both got the flavor Tiger's Blood (go figure- neither one of them liked it). We decided it was time to head out. We stopped by the Dollar General on the way home to pick up some candy for John-Robert's pinata. When we got home Emma-Rae let John-Robert open one of the presents she got him- Sharkboy & Lavagirl DVD in 3D. I had time to stuff the pinata while the kids watched the movie and cooled down.

Birthday party began @ 4:30 p.m. The game plan was- cake, presents, and pinata at our house and a trip to the bowling alley afterwards. John-Robert had a ball opening his presents, he thought everything was awesome! I did manage to snap a picture of the kids at the party(wish I'd have turned off the TV) oh well- I also forgot to take the camera to the bowling alley- ugh!! I'll admit it on the front end- the kids were better bowlers than some of us adults, well mostly me- I'm really NOT good. The kids told me I need some of those rails in the gutter like they had. The Thorne family were like sneaky undercover GOOD bowlers! Miss Angela whipped all of us adults- including Mr. David, ha, ha! We ate lots of fried pickles and french fries. I think John-Robert took a drink out of everyone's soda at some point. Grandma & David gave John-Robert a Daniel Boone hat for his birthday. Maw-Maw Shortie put it on and when John-Robert noticed he said- hey! I have a hat like that! Too funny! We all had a great time and as one of his guests Sheridan said- this night has been the best EVER! Thank you to everyone who came or sent b-day cards. We started working on thank you notes this afternoon but it took about 30 minutes to complete two- if you don't get one right away don't despair, EVENTUALLY we'll get them all done.Top to bottom/Left to right:
